“The WORTHY WOMEN PROJECT aims to ignite strength in ALL women by sharing their stories. You are fearfully and wonderfully made!”– Ashley Nicole
What do you remember learning about beauty from a young age? What impacted you the most that you’ve carried with you into adulthood (positive or negative)?
I learned that beauty is about personality and grace from my mother and my grandmother. They both taught me that beauty is comprised of compassion for others and finding joy in daily life experiences – even the small things.
Tell me your story! What life experiences have made you who you are today?
My mother and my grandmother taught me how to be strong, smart, and beautiful, and that it was ok to be all three. I was lucky to be raised by these two strong women who were beautiful both inside and out. My mom died of leukemia when I was 28, and it softened my heart. My grandmother took over from there. I only hope I can be as beautiful as my mom was at age 53 when she died, and my grandmother who died at age 92.
What is your definition of beauty?
Having joy, feeling confident, and expressing kindness and grace – finding and seeing the beauty in others, in life, and in the world. Those things mean beauty to me.
Do you think you are beautiful?
Yes, but not in traditional ways. I hope my beauty comes from my heart.
What is your favorite NON physical feature about yourself? (After all, beauty is a light in the heart!)
My compassion for others and my joy in connecting with other human beings.
What words of wisdom, based on your personal experience, would you like to share with others who struggle to see their own beauty?
Know you are beautiful because of your light that shines from within. Don’t be afraid of your light even if others retest from it – it’s who you are!
Why are beautiful photos important for you right now?
To remind me of who I am at the age of 55 and to feel good about how I look on the outside.
How does being the woman you are today make you uniquely powerful?
Because I am smart, accomplished, and I have a kind compassionate heart – we need all of those things in this world right now.
